This project went through two previous incarnations. We began by recording Robyn Horn's voice and allowing the photoresistor to control a granular synthesizer. Thus, Phil would control the placement and duration of loop within the wav file we created. The result was a somewhat confusing piece in which it wasn't clear what aspects Phil was controlling though his dance. Below are several experiments with this first incarnation. The second incarnation was set up in the round and still worked with a granular synthesizer, like the last project. This was arguably worse. The circular setup of photoresistors made the project even less clear. After these experiments, we decided live performance and frequency manipulation would make the controlled components clearest.
